Punggol Waterway, Punggol urbanization was a new addition to its facilities today, when Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong officially opened the Channel Punggol.

At the inauguration, PM Lee said he was happy to witness the realization of the stream, “the Venice of Punggol” some call it.

He said that it was a long journey to complete the stream after the initial plans for Punggol 21 were affected by the Asian financial crisis.

However, the channel plans were revised and improved after the economic recovery.

PM Lee said in his speech that Channel Punggol was a central feature of the Punggol 21 plus a plan to transform Punggol in the “Waterfront Town of the 21st century.”

He also said there will be 23,000 families living in Punggol in late 2011 with a new shopping center and town square for Punggol MRT for the year 2015.

The project consolidates statements Punggol Singapore as the first ‘eco-station, where all aspects, from building orientation for solar panels to rainwater, is based on sustainability.

PM Lee said he hoped Punggol residents who treasure their new environment, since it was doubtful that a canal could be built in other states.

The Government will invest $ 10 million and over the next 10 years in improving projects to improve living conditions in major states like Yishun and the East Coast.
