Psalm 46Psalm 46, President Barack Obama read psalm 46 in his speech in New York commemorating the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

As usual Obama use a teleprompter was dropped, the principal deputy press secretary Ernesto Josh explains why the President chose this psalm, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

“The president chose a script that he thought was most appropriate – I thought was particularly appropriate for use – to read the scriptures this morning,” said Ernest.

“And he chose a passage that speaks to persevere through difficult challenges and emerge stronger from challenges,” he said, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

Containing the lines, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and the mountains be carried into the sea.”

“Even though its waters roar and be concerned, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah”, the Old Testament passage continues, AP reports.

Referring to God being a refuge for all those affected by the attacks, Obama also said: “God is in it, she moved: God shall help her in the morning.”
