Project Runway All Stars Challenge

Project Runway All Stars ChallengeProject Runway All Stars Challenge, Now that Heidi Klum is out for this season, model Angela Lindvall is in. Sure, she’s articulate but she lacks Heidi’s adorable personality. I’m sure the transition to a new host would be much easier if we didn’t have to compare to Heidi’s awesomeness. She’s got big heels to fill and she better amp herself up. As for the judges, there is no Michael or Nina but Isaac Mizrahi and co-founder of Marchesa, Georgina Chapman.

Sadly, Tim Gun is also sitting this one out. Marie Claire’s editor and chief Joanna Coles took his place. Doesn’t she have anything better to do, like run a magazine? Apparently, it’s not as time consuming as it once was. Anyway, her critiques were constructive. She obviously knows what she is doing but she lacks Tim’s Star power.

The cast of designers is a mix of true all stars and ratings all stars. Seriously did anyone think Elisa or Anthony Williams were all star designers? The two didn’t make the top three in their seasons how are they going to hold up against Mila or Kenley let alone Mondo? At least Anthony Williams is hilarious with anecdotes about the ghetto and his crazy grandma.

The challenge this week was the unconventional one. The designers were set loose on a 99 cents store to gather materials to create a look. Just when it seemed like a boring repeat of seasons past, Angela threw in a curve ball. The designers had to make a garment that echoed the previous look they showed the judges at the beginning of the episode. Most of the designers were regretting presenting ball gowns at that point.

With minimal drama in the brand new workroom the designers headed off to the runway. The two designers who stood out were Mondo and Rami. The judges also pegged Jerell as one of the top three but his look was the exact same cut as the dress he presented first. Also it was made from handkerchiefs which is hardly unconventional.

Mondo’s black mini dress with the ruffles fit his model perfectly and you could clearly see how it would work with the piece he presented. Rami’s design was also gorgeous. He created a skirt and suit jacked from plaid laundry bags (the ones your grandma use). It looked like it could walk down the runway at a Chanel show.

The bottom three was Gordana, Elisa and Sweet P. The judges criticized Gordana’s streamer dress for being too over- designed. They didn’t like Elisa’s hot short ensemble because it needed explanation. And sweet P’s towel dress was just unfortunate. . The judges were very tame by Project Runway standards. Not once did we get a “what were you thinking?” I expected much more from Isaac.

After an hour, Rami was rightfully named the winner and Elisa was sent home without the usual auf wiedersehen. I don’t agree with Elisa’s loss. Her outfit wasn’t anything special but Sweet P’s dress looked like a bad K-mart beach cover up. At least Elisa put thought into her garment. Still Sweet P is a fan favorite so she’ll stick around for at least another week.
