Athletes On Dancing With The Stars

Athletes On Dancing With The Stars, While it may have been the New York Giants’ season, no individual NFL player had a bigger impact than Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

The former Heisman Trophy winner was the topic of national conversation beyond just the sports pages after leading the Broncos to a series of improbable comeback wins and eventually the playoffs.

Now comes rumors that he may be ready to hit primetime with one of the most-watched television programs, “Dancing with the Stars”. The report from E! has more to do with a conversation Tebow had with this past season’s “DWTS” champion J.R. Martinez than any conversation Team Tebow has had with ABC.

But it got us thinking about athletes, which always make up one of the spots on the “DWTS” lineup and who could be on this spring’s lineup. Since it is in season for the NBA, NHL and MLB, that leaves NFL players as among the most famous and likely to have time to dance among current players. Of course, “Dancing with the Stars” has also tapped former players to fill out its roster including former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith.

Getting the hot athlete of the moment in Tebow (who was voted America’s favorite active pro athlete in a recent poll) would be a ratings coup for ABC. But here is my short list of other candidates:

– Eli Manning, N.Y. Giants: Super Bowl champion quarterback would draw big in N.Y. market

– Tom Brady, New England Patriots: After another loss in the Super Bowl, not likely he would find time for this

– Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers: NFL MVP known by many for his State Farm Discount Double Check move

– Brett Favre, retired: The man Rodgers replaced has spent one year retired, so maybe he’s ready for more attention
