Valentine’s Day Hearts

Valentine’s Day Hearts, Google’s Valentine’s Day doodle may be cute enough to melt even the most staunch anti-Valentine’s Day hearts.

The doodle shows a forlorn boy trying everything he can to win the affection of a girl, who is skipping rope. He first tries searching in Google for tips – and tries giving her flowers, chocolates, a sweater, pie and colorful balloons. When that fails, he wins her heart with something that wasn’t on the search – a bigger jump rope, that the two of them could use together.

The animation is set to Tony Bennett’s rendition of “Cold Cold Heart” and ends with a montage of couples, including a dog and a cat, a cookie and milk and even two men in tuxedoes.

Michael Lipman, who animated the design with Willie Real, told the Washington Post that he related to the doodle thanks to his slight pudginess in grade school.

“That was every girl I met up until college ” he said, of the hard-to-get cartoon character.

He added it’s done without any words to give it a more widespread appeal.

“The animation alludes to that universality” of love,” he told the Post. “These charcters are archetypes, with no dialogue, so it can play around the world.”

On Twitter, the doodle received positive remarks from most users.

“Worried that if I watch todays Google Doodle enough number of times, I’ll finally weep,” one user wrote.
