Meanwhile, the evacuation order remains in effect for residents of the east side of Farrell Street, and provincial assistance for families has been extended until Monday. Currently there are four remaining families of the attendance.

“The situation is less bleak than it was, but people from Environment Canada and the River Forecast Center can not predict what the levels may be the weekend, so we will keep everyone the list and then see the weather and the river very closely to make sure things do not begin to get worse, “says Lane Head.

The local state of emergency is in force.

Chief Lane said that residents of two homes that require additional inspections will still have to wait until the inspection can proceed on their property before returning to their homes. These detailed inspections can take place only when water levels are low enough so that experts have a good look at the foundation for the solarium.

Lane, chief says efforts to mitigate flooding in the past two years have made a positive difference in reducing flooding problems. “The height of River Road has been raised to act as a natural dam, there are flood mitigation works on River Road that can be used to address groundwater. The aqua-products have worked very well, bombs on First Avenue and Queensway Pond (Hudson Bay) will continue to work very well. These mitigation strategies have worked well in how we manage this event of the season. “
