Remembrance Day, Minutes before the armistice to end World War I took effect, the Canadian Private George Lawrence Price became the last soldier killed in that war.
On October 29, Master Cpl. Greff Byron became Canada’s latest casualty of the war and the first outside of combat soldier killed in Afghanistan mission.
November 11 is when Canadians take a pause to remember the men and women who served to protect our freedom.
Stouffville Legion Branch 459 will hold its annual Sunday service at the cemetery of Stouffville, 12 118 tenth line, November 6 at 1 pm
On November 11, the first of the legion of Remembrance Day service in its new building, 150 Mostar St., will begin at 10:45 am
150 to 200 people attend the annual wreath ceremony, according to President Judy Bond legion.
“It’s to honor veterans, to support those who are still alive. That’s what the Legion is about,” he said.
A lunch will be served by the Ladies Auxiliary after the ceremony. It is free and open to all.
Earlier this year, Mostar Street between Main Street and Park Drive Hoover was given a commitment to honor Veterans Way.
In preparation for Memorial Day, volunteers and members of the Legion will participate in the poppy campaign.
All money raised from poppy donations are used to help veterans with their medical needs.
About 25,000 and rises annually in Whitchurch-Stouffville, according to Ms. Bond, who noted that the money stays local.
Volunteers are in Canadian Tire, Giant Tiger, Metro, Nofrills, Staples, Walmart, and the winners on Saturday only, beer store and LCBO.
