Philadelphia PhilliesPhiladelphia Phillies, Any thought of the Philadelphia Phillies had some champagne on ice were put on hold by two changes of David Freese. The St. Louis Cardinals third baseman 28 years old, drove in four runs off Roy Oswalt to a two-run double and a two-run homer Wednesday, ensuring a decisive game 5 of the National League Division Series in Philadelphia on Friday.

The veteran right-hander Edwin Jackson survived a poor start to throw six innings and St. Louis’s bullpen pitched out of trouble in the eighth inning of the 5-3 victory.

Friday’s clash is expected to present 2010 NL Cy Young winner Roy Halladay against his former teammate Chris Carpenter Toronto Blue Jays, who won the 2005 Cy Young Award in the National League for the Cardinals.

“I said (before the series), how exciting it would return to Philadelphia to see the tent and Halladay go to each other,” said St. Louis manager Tony La Russa.

“They have a common history so much, and they’re both great pitchers, great competitors. Now, let’s do it.”

The Cardinals that chance thanks in large part to Freese.

La Russa said there was a discussion among the coaching staff about to start at third base in Game4, or Descals Daniel Freese. Freese had gone 2-for-12 with six strikeouts in the first three-game series.

“The truth is that we meet as a team,” said La Russa. “We discussed whether or Descals Daniel Freese, because Descals has done a really good job. We know what David Freese. This guy is really a tough competitor.”

Despite missing 51 games with a broken hand after being beaten by a pitch on May 1 Freese finished fifth in the Cardinals with 55 RBIs.

“It’s a dream to be part of this,” said Freese, who played high school and college in Missouri and grew ball Cardinals fan. “I dreamed of the World Series, but have a night like this in front of people at Busch Stadium is unreal.”

Freese, who missed much of 2010 for operations on the ankle, said he was not too concerned about his lack of success in the previous three games.

“(When) I go against the pitchers of this type, you may have bad nights, but that’s the beauty of this game,” he said. “And I’m the type of person (who) will come the next day and not even remember what happened the night before.”

The Phillies are in the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning when Chase Utley hit the goalie first base bag for an infield hit. With runners on first and third, Fernando Salas made a wild pitch, making it 5-3, before Hunter Pence grounded in the short term.

With St. Louis fans waving their white towels, lefty Marc Rzepczynski needed three pitches to strike out slugger Ryan Howard Phillies to end the inning.

Oswalt 5-0 with a 3.25 ERA in 10 previous postseason starts, had a 2-1 lead until Freese criticized his two-run double to left in the fourth.

It was still 3-2 when Oswalt Freese Matt Holliday before the first and two outs in the sixth. Freese homered to center immediately for a 5-2 lead.
