Peyton Manning SurgeryPeyton Manning Surgery, As promised, the Colts released an update on quarterback Peyton Manning. After Sunday’s loss to to Carolina, Manning promised that news would be coming on his overall status. However, since a statement was sent out Thursday, it is unknown whether he will talk with media on Friday before traveling to New England. After undergoing tests this week and having them examined by his specialist, Manning’s latest surgery was deemed a success.

“X-ray and CT examination of the surgical area shows that the fusion performed in September has achieved firm fixation,” said Dr. Robert Watkins who performed Manning’s surgery on September 8th.

(An aside: “firm fixation,” what is that, a new buzzword? Reminds me of training camp when it was reported the Manning was throwing with “decent velocity.”)

The statement from Dr. Watkins continues…”Peyton will now be allowed to increase the intensity and breadth of his workouts as tolerated. There remains every indication that his recovery will continue. There still is no timetable for Peyton’s return to practice, which is one of many steps in his expected return to game action. He is working hard on a rehabilitation program outlined in conjunction with myself, Erin Barill and Peyton. His response to this plan in the future will dictate his return date.”

What we know: 18?s most recent surgery seems to be successful and he is allowed to begin working out, more than walking laps around the Colts practice facility. Most of these workouts will depend on Manning’s pain tolerance and if throwing movements bother him.

I did see a report last week that he had thrown some but struggled beyond 15 yards. I have a hard time believing that report because even I can throw it 15 yards with little effort. Then again, he’s dealing with his neck and nerves here so anything is possible. Manning is definitely chomping at the bit to get back to normal and this is just a small movement in the overall process.

Peyton Manning SurgeryPeyton Manning Surgery, There must be something positive about the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2011 season, right? It will be easier to focus on once you stop mourn.  I understand that Colts fans are worried. They should be. Peyton Manning was at quarterback for the first time in 13 years when the season opens on Sunday. He had another surgery in the neck Thursday and appears likely to be lost for the season.

So the usual argument about whether the Colts win 12 games and reach the Super Bowl is out, too. Unless the surprise of the season, if not history, they will not do well. It’s survival mode now.

As a result, Colts fans will be tempted to watch the games on how young children see scary movies: Hands on face, looking through his fingers.

I’m here to suggest you follow the Colts, eyes open, in all its HD splendor. No, can not always be enough. Sometimes, perhaps against the Steelers, Saints and Patriots, which could be embarrassing induction.

But there are actually some good things with the Colts. These positive results will not make anyone forget Manning did not play. That is as impossible as to imagine that the Colts the Super Bowl without the franchise. A playoff spot is probably a long shot. But there are more positives than most probably think.

It begins with the return of Dallas Clark. The Colts tight end missed most versatile of last season with a wrist injury and his absence was evident. Makes tough catches in traffic look easy. But his season also lost Jacob Tamme allowed to intervene and perform well, gaining momentum as the season progressed.

So now the Colts have two ends with experience, confidence set, which should be useful as Kerry Collins has a limited offensive playbook. Clark also brings one of the most optimistic of the team to the locker room.

Running back Joseph Addai back, too, and while most casual NFL fans and committed, even fail to see its full value because of low numbers in a hurry, which is essential for the pass protection of the offensive.

Collins will need additional protection such as computers, from the Texans, giving priority to pressure. Addai picks up blitzes and sacks often avoided. The Colts lost some burst to run when Edgerrin James said goodbye to years ago, but Addai is as slick as James in pass protection. Is also excellent out of the backfield catching passes.

Field goals will undoubtedly be more critical, without Manning and the Colts should be improved here, too, with the continued strength renewed Adam Vinatieri. He injured two years ago, he began to regain his form last season and has shown more power in the legs during the preseason. At age 38, range Vinatieri might assume to be decreasing, but is shown to be booted from 50 meters back in the preseason.

While the Colts lost linebacker Clint Session effective when left in free agency, Ernie Sims came with one. Some believe that an unsuccessful Sims after entering the league as a first-round pick to the Detroit Lions. Sims is to prove critics wrong. It has been shown the speed and aggression and is pushing the second-year linebacker Kavell Conner a starting point.

Finally, two of the biggest Colts star not named Manning – Reggie Wayne and Dwight Freeney – are healthy and motivated.

Freeney recorded three sacks in preseason, comes in a good mood and, like Clark, an infectious personality brings confidence to the team. He knows he can count on your partner extreme, Freeney and Robert Mathis has moved the battle and teaching rookie left tackle Anthony Castonzo how things work in the NFL.

Wayne talk generated substantial when held onto the backup quarterback Curtis Painter after the Colts signed Collins. Wayne has a lot to prove. It is in the final year of his contract. He longs for another big problem. And my hunch is that Wayne wants to show how effective he can be successful in making Collins at quarterback. Wayne Collins mentioned as one of the players has helped him learn the complex crime.

None of these positives outweigh the lack of Manning. But it could be enough to generate the necessary work to compete and most Sundays.

Can time loss Manning Colts during the season? Even the most optimistic more evidence is needed before betting on it.
