Peru Earthquake, A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Peru on Friday, some 32 kilometers south-southwest of Ica, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
A tsunami threat was not published and no immediate damage was reported.
The quake struck about 178 miles south-southeast of Lima, the capital of the country, and had an estimated depth of about 22 kilometers, the USGS said.
In 2007, an earthquake of 8.0 magnitude struck southwestern Peru, killing more than 500 people and injuring more than 1,000.
The most serious damage of the earthquake that was suffered in the towns and cities along the southern Pacific, the coast of Lima, including Chincha, Ca?ete, Pisco and Ica.
