Boston Marathon 2010Boston Marathon 2010:“Losing 40 pounds was a huge accomplishment as I continue to increase my level of fitness, I’m looking for more challenges,” says Bertinelli. “Running the Boston Marathon for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a company that will test my stamina while allowing me the opportunity to raise critical funding for cancer research that will benefit people around the world.”

Bertinelli has been training with Christopher Ross Lane and join over 500 of Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge colleagues who are raising money for the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber, a principal teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a leading cancer researcher and focus in the U.S..

Boston Marathon 2010 1Lane says, “As a coach this is an incredible opportunity for me to run with my client and see Valerie get a big goal in life, and it’s amazing because it benefits a cause incredible.”

Bertinelli is not the only name in bold is running on Monday, April 19, when U.S. Senator John Kerry will start for the wheelchair division and Olympic gold medalist Hannah Kearney of Vermont wills serve as Honorary Grand Marshal. This year, three Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, sisters Nancy, Julie and Maureen Brady will be running with Team Foundation McCourt’s Marathon to raise funds for research and a cure for Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis. The brothers were running in honor of his late grandparents, Harry Brady, who suffered with Alzheimer’s disease, and Bernice Johnson, who had multiple sclerosis. The McCourt Foundation was founded by the seven children of Robert and Mary McCourt, both victims of neurological disorders.

“The training has been hard. Well, I will not lie … very, very, very hard,” says Julie. “Getting up at 5:15 in the morning, knowing they will run 18 miles is far from being a good time. It’s great that I have my sisters to train with.” Both Julie and Maureen live in the Bay Area and have been training together. Nancy has been training in Boston with his teammates, and together they exceeded their original goal of $ 15,000, raising a total of $ 25,000 – but they hope to double that to $ 50,000.

Sister Nancy says: “I know it will be hard, but I will keep the goal in mind why we are doing this marathon. I’ll think of my grandparents. I’ll think about it being perhaps the only time I’ll have to do something really special for them with my two sisters. I hope to see my friends and family on the road. They keep us going. ”

The Brady clan, including parents and his brother Tom (Gisele working), the margin is encouraging the sisters in later, according to Nancy, who served seven months in Kampala, Uganda in recent years by a grant from Pfizer Global as a communications specialist infectious diseases clinic. “Tom’s really proud of the fact that we all decided to do this as a team,” she says.

There are plenty of other marathoners good heart, too, find a way to participate in the race to benefit a charity or good cause. Sam Novey, 22, AKA Burgerman, for example, is a student at Harvard University who is trying to raise $ 100,000 for schools and citizens will be running in a hamburger suit as part of its fund-raising gimmick. His effort was initiated as a result of his passion for hamburgers, their volunteer work with 12 sixth graders at the Edwards Middle School in Charlestown and its project to design an increase in their favorite hamburger emporium in Harvard Square, the restaurant b. good. B.good, in turn, became the official sponsor of the Boston Marathon, during which he will wear a lycra suit and 12-pound burger will be joined on the last leg of the race by six students of the School Citizen Dresses fries. “I ran my first marathon in my first year at Harvard in 2008 (3:49) and my second in 2009 (3:36). Now is a time to do it with a hamburger suit,” says Covey.

In fact, the Boston Marathon itself is the beneficiary of a charitable non-profit as the Boston Athletic Association, founded in 1887, manages, organizes and promotes the annual event.

“This is an opportunity to be surrounded by positive people,” says Nancy Brady. “It’s an enriching experience and turn it more than you put in.”
