Oscar 2012 Predictions, And the race for the Oscar continues, this time in the Best Documentary category. Yesterday, fifteen films narrowed down for Oscar consideration for the 84th Academy Awards, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The “nominees” include:

– BATTLE FOR BROOKLYN

– BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK

– BUCK

– S-EX-LL AND BACK AGAIN

– IF A TREE FALLS: A STORY OF TS-EX- EARTH LIBERATION FRONT

– JANE’S JOURNEY

– TS-EX- LOVING STORY

– PARADISE LOST 3: PURGATORY

– PINA

– PROJECT NIM

– SEMPER FI: ALWAYS FAITHFUL

– SING YOUR SONG

– UNDEFEATED

– UNDER FIRE: JOURNALISTS IN COMBAT

– WE WERE S-EX-RE

Many people are commenting at the exclusion of directors Werner Herzog and Morgan Spurlock. Herzog released two documentaries in the last year, INTO TS-EX- ABYSS and CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS, while Spurlock released TS-EX- GREATEST MOVIE EVER SOLD. The films have thus far received good critical reception, so it is a surprise that they should be left out of the running.

It is interesting that WIM WENDER’s 3D film PINA should be even submitted into the Best Documentary category. The film is an homage to German contemporary dance choreographer Pina Bausch, and contains dance numbers that reflect Wender’s typical fodder (life, love, death, etc.) It is also the only 3D film of the fifteen entries.

Although I have yet to see any of these documentaries, here are my picks for the final five, which will be announced on January 24 at 5:30 AM, with the winner being announced at the 84th Academy Awards on February 26.

– PINA

– PARADISE LOST 3: PURGATORY

– PROJECT NIM

– BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK

– UNDER FIRE: JOURNALISTS IN COMBAT
