Oregon Ducks Football, LaMichael James ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 8 Oregon beat UCLA, 49-31, in the inaugural Pac-12 championship game Friday night for the Ducks’ third straight conference title and a berth in the Rose Bowl.

Rick Neuheisel tipped his cap to the UCLA fans in his last game as coach. The former Bruins quarterback was fired this week after four seasons with his alma mater.

While the Bruins (6-7) played with passion for their outgoing coach and kept it closer than many thought they would, it was not enough to overcome the Ducks (11-2), who head to a BCS bowl for the third straight season.

Darron Thomas threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns, becoming Oregon’s career leader with 63 TD passes. James became the first rusher in Pac-12 history with three straight 1,500-yard seasons. He moved into a tie with USC’s LenDale White (2003-05) for second on the league’s career rushing TD list with 52.

Neuheisel, fired following last weekend’s 50-0 loss to No. 9 Southern California, hugged quarterback Kevin Prince as time ran out.

Oregon will play the winner of the first Big 10 championship game today between No. 11 Michigan State and No. 15 Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 2.

The heavily favored Ducks scored on their first series when James ran 30 yards for a touchdown.

After UCLA answered with a pick-six, Thomas scored on a 10-yard keeper and then found true freshman tight end Colt Lyerla alone in the end zone with a 7-yard scoring pass to make it 21-7.

Michael Dyer, (AP) – Auburn running back Michael Dyer never heard whistling while he continued to run – past the tackler who thought he had him down and deep in the Oregon Territory.

Dyer broke the stride, then took off on a run once in a life-in the final minutes, setting up a field goal on the final play that led No. 1 in Auburn the No. 2 Ducks 22-19 in the BCS championship game Monday night.

The rookie running back eclipsed Auburn won the Heisman quarterback Cam Newton with a run of 37 yards, where it was down but was not – his knee never touched the ground – as he drove on the Oregon defender Eddie Pleasant to put the Tigers in scoring position.

Three plays later, Dyer ran 16 yards to push the ball to 1 and set up the goal Wes Byrun on the ground with 19 yards longer. It was his sixth goal in the field of career win – one that capped a perfect 14-0 season, the title back to Auburn for the first time since 1957 and joined the Conference South is on top for the fifth consecutive year.

A typical sequence for closing a wild finish – five minutes of crazy football has done for the first 55 that were more of an uphill battle that everyone predicted offensive leader.

The madness began when Casey Matthews, son of former NFL linebacker Clay, hit the ball from the hands of Newton while the quarterback was trying Heisman-winning ice advance of 19-11.

Offense in Oregon, closed by Nick Fairley and Company for most of the night, moved 45 meters over the next 2:17 ET Darron Thomas threw a shovel pass for a touchdown LaMichael James. Thomas hit Jeff Maehl binder for conversion to 2 points with 2:33 left and the game was down to one possession.
