The Stamford woman who was severely injured in a chimpanzee attack in February will appear Wednesday on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Charla Nash, who turns 56 today, lost both hands, her vision, nose, lips and eyelids in the February attack. She has been receiving treatment at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

A statement from Harpo Productions Inc., which produces the show, said that Nash “will discuss how she’s adjusting to a new way of life, how she maintains her incredible spirit, and what the future holds for her.”

Angela DePaul, a spokeswoman for the show, said the interview with Nash was taped in advance.

Nash was a friend of the chimpanzee’s owner, Sandra Herold. The attack occurred Feb. 16, after Herold asked Nash to help her bring the animal into her house. Herold has said she did not know why the chimpanzee attacked Nash but speculated that he did not recognize her because she had a different hairstyle and was driving a different car.

Police shot and killed the chimp after he attacked Nash.
