Yad Vashem, (AFP) – Israel Museum Yad Vashem and Google have partnered to bring the world’s largest collection of Holocaust documents on the Internet, they said Wednesday.

In the first phase of the project “130,000 photographs from the archives of Yad Vashem will be visible online in full resolution,” the museum said in an announcement that comes ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Thursday.

“We focus on finding new and innovative ways to make the enormous amount of data in our archives and searchable access to a global audience,” the chairman of Yad Vashem Avner Shalev said in a statement.

Yossi Matias, director of local giant’s Internet division of RD & said that “for some time, Google has worked to bring online the world of historical and cultural heritage. The Internet offers a great opportunity preserve and share important materials stored in the archive. ”

The Holocaust Memorial is held January 27; Soviet troops liberated the day of the extermination camp at Auschwitz in 1945.
