Ohio Election Results, Ohioans made important decisions in the March primary election, choosing Presidential nominees, U.S. Senators, U.S. and Ohio Representatives and members of the Ohio Senate. Voters also picked state and local judges, county officers and decided on local issues, including school levies.

The Republican Presidential nomination was one of the key races to watch. Recent polls before Super Tuesday showed that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Gov. Rick Santorum were running a dead heat in Ohio. In the end, a late surge by Romney in two Ohio counties landed him the GOP nomination.

Another anticipated race was the Ohio Democratic Congressional primary for the newly drawn 9th District between longtime politicians Rep. Marcy Kaptur and Rep. Dennis Kucinich. Both veteran lawmakers saw their districts merged when Ohio reapportioned its House seats after 2010. It was Kaptur, however, who pulled ahead of Kucinich and led to the concession of longtime Cleveland politician Kucinich, who later congratulated and slammed Kaptur after his loss.

Timothy McGinty won the Democratic nomination for Cuyahoga County Prosecutor. The former Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge beat four other candidates, with 35% of the vote. McGinty’s primary win means he’ll likely take over for Bill Mason, whose career as county prosecutor began in 2000.

Following five levy defeats over a 20 year span voters in Garfield Heights decided to pass a school levy that will generate $9.4 million over the next five-years. Voters passed the levy by a 51% to 49% margin; just 134 votes separated the outcome.
