Northern Mariana Islands:Nine states, including Virginia, have submitted legal briefs in support of the new Arizona immigration law, saying they have pre-existing constitutional authority to enforce federal immigration laws within its borders. The documents add political gunpowder legal confrontation between tense Arizona state officials and the U.S. Justice Department, which sued to stop the Arizona law came into force on 29 July.

Virginia is one of two states that has implemented the Federal health insurance program in communities throughout the state. The program is currently in use in 336 jurisdictions in 22 states and has been credited with the deportation of more than 8,500 foreign criminals convicted of murder, rape and kidnapping, and more than 22,500 convicted of misdemeanors.

The Attorney General of the State of Michigan, Mike Cox, a Republican running for governor, said “It is terrible to see President Obama used taxpayer dollars to stop the efforts of a State to protect its own borders.”

Virginia and Michigan were joined by Alabama, Florida, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, and Northern Mariana Islands.
