Antti NiemiAntti Niemi, After Antti Niemi was granted and 2.75 million in arbitration over the weekend, the Chicago Blackhawks have decided to depart from the sentence, which allows the netminder 26-year-old to become an unrestricted free agent in accordance Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune.

Instead, the team has signed veteran goalie Marty Turco (pictured right) for a one-year contract, and reportedly worth between 1 million and 1.5 million, helping to complete the salary cap random induced list Place has been all offseason in the wake of the team’s Stanley Cup win since 1961. Niemi joins Andrew Ladd, Dustin Byfuglien, Kris Versteeg, Brent Sopel, John Madden and Ben anxious as the players will not help the team defend its title. The Blackhawks had no choice but to shed the salary of this summer, coming into the season and well above the ceiling of 59.4 million salary cap.
There is also a strong possibility that the team will eat the contract of veteran goalie Cristobal Huet – who is still owed to 5.6 million per season over the next two years – since the team still only has 18 players under contract for next season, and is located right in the ceiling of the cap, even after changing Niemi Turco.

Turco is coming off a rebound season rate – at least compared to the previous two seasons – the Dallas Stars, the publication of a .913 save percentage in 53 games. His game has decreased a lot in the last two years, but he will join a Chicago team that is still very strong in the Blueline with Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Brian Campbell (good player, bad contract).

Marty TurcoMarty Turco,(Examiner) — Marty found a job. Yes, you heard right. Marty Turco, a former prime minister Dallas goalkeeper, is now a Chicago Blackhawk.

Yes, I knew I would never see him again as a Dallas Star again, yet I’m still stunned by the news. How strange is it to play against Turco?

And it’s not a backup goalie for our beloved Marty.

The Chicago Blackhawks have been in arbitration with Anti Neimi for a while now. Today, withdrew from the arbitration table and signed unrestricted free agent goalie Marty Turco to a one-year contract. Niemi, in turn becomes an unrestricted free agent.

The Chicago Tribune was the first report of this (shocking for us fans Stars) News. They reported that the monetary arrangements were not disclosed, but report that the deal is worth between $ 1 million and $ 1.5 million.

Supposedly, according to NHL.com, Turco turned down a contract worth 2 million to Philadelphia earlier this year. (And who can blame him, he wants to live in Philadelphia?)

Marty Turco has a 262-154-26 record. He was 22-20-11 in the 2009/2010 season with a 2.72 goals against average and a .913 save percentage and four shutouts for the Dallas Stars.

“Our priority was to put it … in a club where he had a chance to play a role in winning the Stanley Cup,” said Kurt Overhardt, Turkish agent, the Chicago Tribune.

Will Marty be # 1?

It is possible that the Blackhawks Cristobal Huet is lowered to lower the AHL. And Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman wants to give an opportunity Corey Crawford.

While last year was not a stellar year for Marty Turco, who was still pretty good, and delete that year, and

Blackhawks can only be doing one of the best offers for a goalie in the NHL.

Best of luck, Marty!
