New Jersey Nets

New Jersey Nets, First it was Chris Paul who had a wish list of teams he would like to be traded to, then it was Dwight Howard who had (and still has) a list of teams, that he submitted to Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith, of teams he would like to be traded to and now Deron Williams wants to join in on the fun. Sources close to Deron Williams stated that Deron Williams has now submitted a list of teams he would like to be traded to to the New Jersey Nets. Now this does not mean that this is Williams first choice, Williams would prefer staying in New Jersey (which will be Brooklyn in 2012-2013) but only if the Nets can get Dwight Howard.

Both Howard and Williams know that their NBA futures are connected, if Howard comes to the Nets then Williams stays and the Nets become a championship contender. If Howard goes elsewhere then Williams, according to sources, will leave New Jersey (or demand a trade if Howard is traded somewhere besides New Jersey) to one of the three teams on his wish list. Williams three teams include the following teams the, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Sources also said that Williams wanted to play for the Los Angeles Clippers but that was before they struck a deal with the New Orleans Hornets and obtained Chris Paul. If Howard gets traded to a team that he has desired, such as the Los Angeles Lakers, then the Nets, according to sources, will begin to explore trade possibilities for Williams.

As for the three teams on Williams list, there is a way that he could join each team if he wished to do so. The New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks are the more likely destinations as all Williams would have to do to land there is wait until the off-season and go to either team as a free-agent. Both the Mavericks and Knicks will have the cap room to sign Williams this off-season. The Mavericks will actually have enough cap room to sign both Howard and Williams if they wish to do so.

Now things get more difficult if Williams wants to go to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers would not have the cap room to sign Williams in the off-season and the idea of getting Williams in a trade is also sort of far-fetched since they do not really have the top young prospects the Nets are looking for. But we have seen the Lakers pull off crazier trades before, most notably of which was the Pau Gasol trade in which the Lakers gave up nothing to get the All-Star power forward, so no one is ruling out the possibility of Williams to the Lakers.

If the Nets are put into a position where they will be forced to trade Williams, for example they did not get Howard and Williams is demanding a trade, then sources have said that they will not trade Williams for mediocre talent just to get something in return. Instead the Nets would decide to let Williams walk and choose to pursue two high profile players which they view as a better option than simply getting average players in a trade that would only eat up cap space.
