New Girl Scout CookieNew Girl Scout Cookie, What can a cookie do? More than you see!

Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls learn important skills like goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Girls in our council have used their cookie proceeds to do amazing things! They have helped a children’s hospital by purchasing toys, created a playroom for homeless children to enjoy, helped to save homeless pets, donated hair to make wigs for cancer survivors and patients, and purchased a llama for a family in Peru.

How can you help? Buy some Girl Scout cookies! You don’t even have to eat them yourself – participate in our Council Gift of Caring Program and donate the cookies to a local organization! The proceeds earned from the Girl Scout Cookie Program support girls’ activities year-round.

In honor of our 100th anniversary, we are introducing a new cookie this year – Savannah Smiles, a lemon cookie. The other cookies are Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Dulce de Leche and Thank You Berry Munch. Cookies are still $3.50 per box.

If you don’t know a Girl Scout, then booth sales begin Feb. 18 and you can pick up your Girl Scout cookies at any of those. Use our booth sale locator at www.gsnypenn.org to find a booth sale near you!

Local Girl Scouts in Port Byron, Weedsport, Auburn, Skaneateles and Marcellus will be holding cookie rallies on Jan. 10 to start the cookie-selling season.

We hope you’ll support local Girl Scouts!

Local Girl Scouts Out and About

The Moravia and Union Springs Girl Scouts were Christmas caroling in December and the Southern Cayuga Girl Scouts helped out at the King Ferry Food Pantry in December. Area Girl Scouts participated in Dickens Christmas in Skaneateles again this year. The girls had a great time being in costume and serving eggnog to everyone.

Caywasco Girl Scouts are planning a trip to Greek Peak for a family snow-tubing day this month. The Port Byron and Weedsport Girl Scouts are bowling at Rainbow Lanes and Auburn Scouts are bowling at Falcon Lanes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Girl Scouts in Auburn are holding a food drive now through Feb. 29. All food collected will be donated to a local food bank.

Join the fun and friendship of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience! Troops are up and running in all areas. Girls can join by being a part of a troop, or just attending a summer camp program, traveling or participating in an event or series of activities. Visit www.gsnypenn.org or call 698-9400 or 539-5085 for more information.
