National Parks Free DaysNational Parks Free Days, Admission to America’s national parks will be free in 17 days in 2012 to encourage people to explore the natural beauty of the country, officials said.

The National Park Service announced days off next year will be on 14-16 (Martin Luther King Jr. weekend), April 21-29 (National Park Week), June 9 (Get day outdoors), 29 May (National Public Lands day) and 11 10 to 12 (weekend of Veterans Day), the U.S. Interior Department said in a statement.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar urged Americans to take advantage of opportunities offered by the country’s national parks.

“Whether or not during one of the 17-day free tuition next year, I encourage everyone to visit a park near them and enjoy the remarkable scenery and historical and cultural sites that are unique to our great country” he said.

Hotels, restaurants, gift shops and tour operators in many of the parks offer special deals to coincide with the days of free admission, officials said.

“Most national parks do not have an entrance fee and they charge a maximum of 25 and a week for an entire family,” said National Park Service director Jonathan B. Jarvis.

“We realize that there are additional expenses to visit a park of many partner companies have discounts and upgrades in the days free of charge.”
