National Day Of Unplugging

National Day Of Unplugging, Can you unplug for the day? The non-profit organization Reboot is issuing that challenge, asking people to observe the National Day of Unplugging from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. That means no Internet, no cell phones, no Tweets or Facebook posts for 24 hours.

Reboot is part of the Sabbath Manifesto, a project designed to “slow down lives in an increasingly hectic world.”  “Connect with loved ones,” the challenge reads at Causes.com . “Nurture your health. Get outside. Find silence. Avoid commerce. Give back. Eat Together.”

CNET reported this is the third year for the challenge, fashioned after the Jewish tradition of Sabbath or a day of rest. CNET blogger Bonnie Cha wrote that she is planning to take the challenge, even if she is a little nervous about going smartphone-free. She said she’s making more of an effort to find times to unplug.

“I’m pretty good about not checking my smartphone when I’m out with friends, but I’m making more of a conscious effort not to be tethered to it at other times too, like when I’m at home or on the bus,” she wrote.
