National CathedralNational Cathedral, Washington National Cathedral, the highest point in U.S. city capital, was damaged in the earthquake on Tuesday, with three towers in the central tower of breaking the Gothic-style building, a spokesman said.

Richard Weinberg, director of communications for the Episcopal Cathedral, said the three pinnacles of the tower 30 stories high the center had broken down and were lying on the grass.

“A quarter bends,” said Weinberg. “There were no other structural damage under small buttresses and pinnacles.”

There were no injuries of damage, but the cathedral – the seat of state funerals and memorial services for many U.S. presidents and the site of several services of the Presidential Inaugural Prayer – was closed to the public that the building could be inspected.

The cathedral, which weighs 150,000 tons and took 83 years to complete, is a masonry structure of limestone blocks stacked one atop another.

The flying buttresses of stone and also help keep the walls. The roof is supported by a steel beam structure, but do not help keep the rest of the cathedral.

Several pieces fell off the roof of Union Station, Va., said Newton, an employee of tour bus working at the train station 104 years old.

A Reuter’s reporter saw three sections of the station ceiling decorated dome that seemed to have fallen, measuring about 2 feet (0.6 meters) in diameter.

Several national monuments – Lincoln, Washington Monument and Jefferson – were closed after the earthquake, DC Fire and EMS agency said in a tweet.

The agency said other damage reported by the earthquake in Washington at the Embassy of Ecuador.
