Nascar New HampshireNascar New Hampshire, Ryan Newman held off his boss and teammate Tony Stewart to win his first race of the season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday. Newman won from the pole and became the winner in 13 different races of the Sprint Cup 19. Newman and Stewart became the first front row start Stewart-Haas Racing in qualifying on Friday and were 1-2 again when it mattered on the day of the race. It was an exceptional weekend for SHR, and Newman and Stewart hope you have emerged as contenders for the Chase for the Sprint Cup title.

“This was a perfect weekend,” said Stewart. “Only an awesome day for Stewart-Haas. Just needed a day that was not stupid to go wrong.”

It was an almost perfect pair of runs for pilots preparing for a championship race. Newman won for the first time since April 2010 in Phoenix and Stewart won just his second top five of the season.

Newman was choked after the race that he dedicated the victory to the military, friends and family.

“We knew we were capable of it,” he said. “We were so close so many times this year.”

Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano and five-time champion Jimmie Johnson completed the top five.

Johnson and Jeff Gordon, who finished 11th, both recovered from major setbacks for finishing strong. Kyle Busch, who started the race as the points leader, had tire problems, was forced to the garage and finished 36th.

With some of the best drivers fighting, Newman and Stewart was the lead in the stretch.

Newman led 119 of the 301 laps and won his 15th career Cup race.

Only seven races remain until the Chase field is located. The top 10 drivers automatically earn a spot. Two points in the Chase will be the winningest drivers ranked between 11 and 20.

Newman is in eighth place.

“This puts us in a much better position that’s for sure,” he said.

He is the last new face in Victory Lane in 2011. The 13 different winners match the total of last season.

Newman was at home in Victory Lane in New Hampshire. He also won the Tour changed the race on Saturday.
