Nasa, NASA signed a 42.1 million contract modification to space shuttle reusable solid manufacturer ATK rocket motor Launch Systems Inc. of Brigham City, Utah, continued to provide pre-launch support postlaunch October 1, 2010, to through December 31, 2011.
The amendment is based on an extension of the current schedule of launching the space shuttle program, which displaced the last two missions planned in fiscal year 2011. The extension also covers the completion of market activities on the processing of flight hardware after the shuttle flight scheduled last, STS-134, and post-flight activities for the cleaning and preservation of solid rocket motors reusable.

This amendment brings the total potential value of the tax cost-plus-award / incentive fee contract and to 4.13 billion. The principal place of work performed is ATK Launch Systems Inc. in Brigham City.

Engines of the space shuttle solid rocket are the first designed for reuse and the solid rocket motors only approved for human flight. They operate in parallel with the main engines of the shuttle during the first two minutes of flight and provide the additional thrust needed for the orbiter to escape Earth’s gravity.
