My Binondo GirlMy Binondo Girl, The year 2011 redefined television viewing. It was a year of notable “returns” on Philippine television, and shows with different formats and plots were also introduced.

In its first issue for the year 2012, entertainment magazine Star Studio listed down this year’s most remarkable television achievements.

The success of soap operas which had celebrities starring in dual roles topped the list.

Star Studio cited Coco Martin’s portrayals of a military man and as a bandit in the ABS-CBN series “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin.”

Another hit for the year was Kim Chiu in “My Binondo Girl,” where she played the role of a young lady who pretended to be her younger brother.

Next on the list is the successful remake of ABS-CBN’s “Mara Clara.” People avidly followed the show, “proving that a good story can be told more than once.”

The remake was headlined by Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes. The original version starred Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes.

The presence of child stars on the primetime block also redefined Philippine viewership, said Star Studio.

Viewers religiously followed Zaijan Jaranilla in the hit soap opera, “May Bukas Pa.” This triumph was followed by Mutya’s self-titled show “Mutya,” and Xyriel Manabat’s “100 Days To Heaven.”
