Motown Museum Detroit, The piano great Motown Historical Museum goes to New York for restoration.

The 1877 Steinway grand piano was played by the biggest stars of Motown, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, in some of the biggest hits of the label. But the piano is no longer viable.

Former Beatle Paul McCartney realized the history of the piano and the state when he visited Hitsville USA before their concert at Comerica Park in July. After the show he called the museum and offered to pay the cost of restoration.

On Monday, the engines are the museum’s piano. Be sent to the Steinway factory in New York for restoration work.

It is expected that five months. The cost of restoration is unknown until an evaluation of the status of the piano.
