Most Expensive Houses In The World, On Wednesday 30 November 2011, the auction house Claude Aguttes of Neuilly presented the creator Roger Vivier’s personal collection. The auction gathered an ensemble of 343 lots and made a profit of €620,000, all taxes included. The lots varied from sketches to photographs, unique models, prototypes, etc. The total of the sale exceeded organisers’ expectations, even if it is extremely difficult to evaluate those exceptional pieces, as most of them are unique models and prototypes.

Among the most awaited prototypes, the bidders battled for numerous models especially made for celebrities such as Elisabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot, Jeanne Moreau, Talitah Getty, John Lennon, Cary Grant, Cecil Beaton… for who the creator represented the absolute symbol of elegance and refinement. It is worth noting that numerous records were set, in particular the prototype of an evening low-fronted shoe created for the princess of Iran Soraya Esfandiari Bakhtiari, a.k.a. “the princess with sad eyes”. The shoe created by Roger Vivier for Christian Dior, embroidered with a silver line and topazes, was sold for a total of €19,750 all taxes included, thus becoming the most expensive shoe in the world.

The French State supported the auction with 55 pre-emptions for the Musée national de la chaussure de Romans. The Roger Vivier house also bought creator’s pieces, as well as the Fédération Française de la Chaussure, along with German and American museums.
