MMFF 2011MMFF 2011, It is Christmas season, the time of the year when Filipino families bond together, children are dressed for the occasion, individuals exchange gifts, companies hold parties for workers, and overseas workers and returning residents come home to celebrate holidays with their loved ones. Everyone is in high spirits, while awaiting the birth of Christ. Amid the hustle and bustle of preparation, Filipinos find time to relax and enjoy the jolly mood of the season.

The holding of the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) jibes with the Yuletide spirit. MMFF will run from Christmas Day December 25, 2011, to Three Kings Day, January 7, 2012, the world’s longest Christmas celebration. It is the biggest and most exciting annual event for the Philippine movie industry. The participating films are shown in 17 Metro Manila cities and towns and the rest of the Philippines. While Metro-wide in billing, MMFF is nationwide in scope. No foreign movies are shown during the 14 days. Only films approved by MMFF jurors are shown.

A highlight of the MMFF is the traditional “Parade of Stars” on opening day, showcasing the floats of film entries with their movie stars. The Best Float, along with major awards, will be announced on Awards Night. At stake are trophies, cash prizes, and tax incentives for the seven official entries vying in 25 categories led by Best Picture.

Overall Chairman of this year’s MMFF, Atty. Francis N. Tolentino, Chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, said the box-office goal this year is R600 million. The seven films for the 37th MMFF – Panday 2; Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow; Enteng ng Ina Mo; My Househusband; Asiong Salonga, Segunda Mano; Shake, Rattle, & Roll 13 are in various genres: comedy, action, drama, horror, and fantasy.

We congratulate the organizer of the Metro Manila Film Festival, led by its Overall Chairman, Atty. Francis N. Tolentino, Chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, film producers and stars, on the holding of the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival. We also congratulate the winners of the awards in various categories. We wish them all the best and success in all endeavors. MABUHAY!
