Romney Glitter Bomb

Romney Glitter Bomb, A Colorado student is facing the possibility of six months in jail for throwing glitter at Mitt Romney this week in an increasingly popular form of liberal protest known as a “glitter bombing.”

Peter Lucas Smith, a 20-year-old student at the University of Colorado, staged his sparkly protest after a Romney speech following Tuesday’s Colorado caucuses. While the glitter bomb is most associated with vocal supporters of gay marriage, Smith told Reuters that his protest was in response to the GOP front-runner’s “general political philosophy.”

CNN managed to capture the incident on video, which we’ve embedded below. It shows Romney shaking hands with supporters in a Denver auditorium when Smith throws the glitter. Secret Service agents then quickly ushered Romney away.

Local law enforcement officials detained Smith for questioning that night, and reportedly charged him with at least three misdemeanors: creating a disturbance, throwing a missile and an unlawful act on school property. If convicted, Smith faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. He told Reuters he has no regrets about his protest.

This isn’t the first time Romney has been glitter bombed. Just last week he got his first taste at a Minnesota rally, and jokingly spun the act as celebratory “confetti” for his recent win in Florida.

Romney joins a rather lengthy list of GOP contenders who’ve been glitter bombed over the course of the current election season. All three of his current challengers — as well as at least one who has since dropped out (Tim Pawlenty) — have also been targeted, some more than once.
