Kansas Election Results 2010Kansas Election Results 2010, WASHINGTON – AP – Incumbents should be careful. Another legislator just bit the dust. Michigan Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick lost his bid for an eighth term Tuesday, the legal problems of his son dragged down in a year when voters seem eager fickle fire from lawmakers for a long time.

She is the sixth – and the room in the house – to lose so far this year. And frustrated voters could address the same fate in other primaries in the next two months, let alone the general election in November, when nothing less than the balance of power in Washington is in play.

In another nod to fresh blood, Michigan voters elected political newcomer Rick Snyder as the Republican candidate in the race to succeed outgoing Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm in a statement severely battered by economic recession.

He automatically became the favorite in the diseased state in his race against Mayor Virg Bernero of Lansing, who grabbed the Democratic nomination by beating House Speaker Andy Dillon. Michigan has the nation’s second highest unemployment rate – 13.2 percent – and dozens of foreclosures, and has been a drag on Granholm, the Democratic governor that he must leave office because of term limits.

Both results reflect a strong sense of the electorate anti-system and its intense desire for new faces just three months before the midterm elections.

Other races in Missouri and Kansas are more predictable in what would otherwise have been a primary season of unexpected results, such as Tea Party candidates shook races and voters rejected candidates aligned with political parties.

In Kansas, two-term Sen. Sam Brownback, sailed for the Republican nomination in the gubernatorial race. Democrat Robin Carnahan – a member of a famous Missouri political family – and seven-term Republican Rep. Roy Blunt secured places on the November ballot in that race in the state Senate.

Another veteran politician – Republican Rep. Jerry Moran – narrowly beat fellow Republican Rep. Todd Tiahrt in the race for the party nod for Kansas Senate and faces Democrat Lisa Johnston, a university administrator. Moran supported by Senator Jim DeMint, RS.C., while Tiahrt had the support of Sarah Palin. The victory in the GOP primary was tantamount to a general election win, as Kansas has not elected a Democrat in the Senate since 1932.

Elections 2010 mid-term and five members have been lost. Sens. Robert Bennett, Republican of Utah and Arlen Specter, D-Pa., Were overthrown by their respective parties. Representatives Alan Mollohan, DW.Va., Parker Griffith, R-Ala., And Bob Inglis, RS.C., have failed in their core offering.

State Sen. Hansen Clarke of Detroit Kilpatrick beat. Throughout the campaign, highlighted the legal problems of her son, Kwame Kilpatrick, who resigned as mayor of Detroit in 2008 after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice. Kilpatrick tried to overcome his son’s legal difficulties, with emphasis on its membership in the Committee on Appropriations of the House and what she called his record of providing the Detroit metropolitan area.

In the career of the governor, Snyder – that caught the attention with ads promoting himself as “a nerd hard” – exceeded the Attorney General Mike Cox, Rep. Pete Hoekstra and two others. The former president and chief operating officer at computer maker Gateway Inc. last and 6 million of his own money in the primary.

In Kansas, Brownback, easily won the Republican nomination for governor in a single opponent and it was considered the favorite for the general election. He is taking a seat in the Senate who is detained since 1997. The conservative Republican tried to reach the 2008 presidential nomination before dropping out.

State Sen. Tom Holland is unopposed for the Democratic nomination. They will face Democratic succeed Gov. Mark Parkinson, who was completing the unexpired term of Kathleen Sebelius. He resigned last year to become the health of President Barack Obama and the Secretary of Human Services.

In Missouri, Carnahan, the daughter of a former Governor and Senator, easily defeated two rivals. His Senate bid came 10 years after the death of his father and one brother in a plane crash.

Carnahan two-term secretary of state, will face Blunt, who has served in the House since 1996 and whose son is a former governor. He beat eight rivals for the GOP nomination including the party favorite tea Sen. Chuck Purgason. Four-term Sen. Kit Bond retires.

Missouri was also the first state to test the popularity of the law of Obama health care reform.

The voters strongly approved a new law that prohibits the government from requiring people to have health insurance or punishes them pay for the care of their own health. This conflicts with the federal requirement that most people have health insurance or face sanctions from 2014.

The legal effect is questionable, because federal law generally supersede those of the states. But his step sent a clear political message to Obama and the Democrats.
