Middle Grades

Middle Grades, Parents at St. Paul’s French immersion elementary are almost evenly split over expanding the school into the middle grades.

This fall, the district surveyed parents at L’Etoile du Nord, which is moving to a divided campus in 2013 to make room for a new East Side middle school under the Strong Schools, Strong Communities plan. In announcing the move last fall, the district floated the possibility of turning the elementary into a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade program.

Some parents saw that as a chance to grow the successful program, but others worried about losing its solid continuation at Ramsey Junior High. In results the district shared with parents this week, about 53 percent of the 350 parents surveyed supported the K-8 model for the school.

Superintendent Valeria Silva will consider the results and other data in making a recommendation to the school board early next year.

“The ultimate goal is to strike a balance between what is best for the students and staff of LNFI and for the school system as a whole,” Chief of Schools Mike Kremer wrote in a letter to parents.
