Michelle Trachtenberg, Michelle Trachtenberg was considered for the role of Bella Swan in “The Twilight Saga” films, the actress revealed. “There was definitely interest here and there because there’s only so few pale girls in Hollywood,” Trachtenberg told Us Weekly on Wednesday.

“I’ve known [director] Catherine Hardwicke since the movie ‘Thirteen,'” she continued. “I was actually supposed to star in that, but I was on ‘Buffy’ at the time…I guess schedules never worked out.”

Hardwicke helmed the first installment of the vampire franchise and also directed “Twilight” star Nikki Reed and Evan Rachel Wood in the 2003 coming-of-age drama “Thirteen.” The actress also co-wrote its script.

The role as Bella would have been an ironic turn for Trachtenberg, who portrayed Sarah Michelle Gellar’s little sister on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

“I already have Buffy, I’ve already done the vampire thing,” Trachtenberg said of the close call. But the “Gossip Girl” actress didn’t have any regrets, telling the weekly that to imagine what would have been wouldn’t be helpful.

“[Hypothetical answers mean] you’re not living in the moment and you’re looking negatively at what you’re doing now,” Trachtenberg said.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” the fourth movie in the hit vampire series, which stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and depicts the consequences of their characters’ union has earned $236 million domestically since its opening on November 18.

The movie is the first part of the fourth installment of the fantasy romance series, which is based on the novels by Stephenie Meyer. The previous three movies, the first of which was released in 2008, have grossed more than 1.8 billion worldwide. The second part of “Breaking Dawn” is due to be released on Nov. 16, 2012.

Trachtenberg is known for her roles on series like “The Adventures of Pete & Pete,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Mercy,” “Gossip Girl” and “Weeds.” Her earliest roles were on “Law & Order,” “Clarissa Explains It All” and “All My Children.”
