putting it in first place in that state. Mitt Romney comes in a close second with 21 percent, Ron Paul third at 16 percent, Rick Perry in the fourth 12 percent and Tim Pawlenty, fifth at 11 percent.

The numbers are definitely good news for the Bachmann campaign, as the countdown to Saturday’s election followed closely straw in Ames, Iowa politician says that the contest will determine who will emerge as the main rival of the Republican Party the presumed favorite Mitt Romney.

Many predict a victory for Bachmann in Ames, but her victory could be complicated if Texas Gov. Rick Perry, as expected, announced his candidacy for president during a speech in South Carolina on Saturday. Perry Many observers consider being a great threat to both Bachmann and Romney campaigns.

CBS News says the Newsweek article and a profile in The New Yorker are tightening their scrutiny of the candidates before the event Saturday. Meanwhile, controversial cover photo of Newsweek Bachmann – what one conservative commentator has found the “crazy eyes” of photos – is drawing condemnation from fans and critics alike Bachmann. A Star Tribune editorial writer for the magazine cover says is unfair and sexist, and summarizes the issue this way:

The picture is not bleak. It goes far beyond that, so the three-term congressman looks unbalanced. It’s the kind of picture we expect to see in an advertisement for a political attack, not on the cover of a news magazine.
