Venus, Venus Williams opened the night session in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday in style. She defeated her opponent in the third round Mandy Minella of Luxembourg in three sets 6-2, 6-1. Minella did not continue in office until the fifth game of the second set. Minella Venus broke serve seven times in the game. Venus still has a set in the tournament.

Venus converted 82 percent of his first serve and produced 29 winners compared to five Minella. Venus was spectacular in net, winning 18 of his 21 approaches. But Venus only become 42 percent of his second serve points and made 30 unforced errors – both numbers that must improve if Venus is to continue in the tournament.

Venus, like her younger sister, Serena, is known for making fashion statements on the court. This was no different on Friday. Venus played with a short black dress revealing impregnated with flashy sequins, and cut through the back.

Serena, who is the highest ranked player on the tour, but did not play due to injury, was present at the Open for the first time all week. Serena wore a red dress in the player’s box, so his return to the tournament which sadly was last year after being ousted in a controversial foot-fault call.

When Venus was asked about her dress, the champion of the tournament on two occasions, which also has its own clothing line said “Serena is looking rather sexy tonight. She looks beautiful in red.”

Venus, 30, has brought three different dresses in the tournament, when most players decide to go with one for the duration. Asked if he would use a different dress if she were to reach the final.

“Seven is a lot of dresses,” said Venus. “That would be an honor to wear seven dresses throughout.”

Nadal, who has won eight Grand Slam tournaments, is seeking to complete a Grand Slam this year at Flushing Meadows. The U.S. Open is the only major that eludes Spanish.

He moves to the third round, where they will play France’s Gilles Simon. Simon, who has a ranking of No. 42 because it lost most of the year with a knee injury, is a former player and tennis in June once again solid. Nadal, however, has a 3-1 record against the French with all parties that came in the hard court.
