Hartford DistributorsHartford Distributors, Nine people have died in a shootout in the workplace, a Manchester, Ct., Beer distribution warehouse, and an undetermined number wounded.

On the morning of Tuesday, Omar Thornton, a driver for Hartford Distributors, was in a shootout during a shift change in the morning, and then himself, police said.

Mr. Thornton, who had worked for the company for a couple of years, had been called to a disciplinary hearing, according to reports, and headed this morning. It was unclear whether the meeting had taken place before he started shooting.

According to people Brett Hollander, director of marketing for the company, between 50 and 70 were in the store when Thornton opened fire at about 7 am A warehouse fire – has been – added to the chaos. Thornton eventually turned his semiautomatic rifle on himself as police approached.

Mr. Hollander, whose family owns the company, says his cousin, who was shot in the face and arm, was among the wounded. Hollander believes that his cousin will be fine.

“There was a guy who was supposed asked to resign, to come to resign and chose not to and shot my cousin and my co-workers,” he told the Associated Press Hollander.

It is still unclear why Thornton was being disciplined, but a source told the Hartford Courant that he had been suspected of stealing from the company. Joanne Hannah, a former resident of Thornton, whose daughter had dated, also told the Courant that Thornton, who is black, had complained of racial harassment in the workplace and that his superiors had refused to address your complaint.

The shooting is the deadliest in U.S. since 13 people were shot dead in Fort Hood, Texas, last November.

The shooting “was a senseless act of violence that has left us all shaken and reminds us how precious and fragile life really is,” said Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell in a statement of condolence to the families of the victims.

Omar ThorntonOmar Thornton, (CBS News) —  MANCS-EX-STER, Conn. (CBS / WFSB / AP) Omar Thornton, Hartford Distributors warehouse driver who allegedly went on a Tuesday morning shooting that left nine dead and several wounded, was never a violent man, according to his former -girlfriend.

“There has never been violent, that I know,” Thornton’s ex-girlfriend told the CBS affiliate WFSB. “I do not know what happened inside it.”

several workers in the beer distribution center shot inside the business at around 7 am, police said. Police sources said the man, whom his coworkers identified as Thornton, was found fatally shot inside the building before 9:00 a.m., according to CBS affiliate WFSB.

The State Bureau of Firearms Omar shows that Thornton bought two guns in January. Hartford Dealers said employees Thornton had been at work for about two or three years. John Hollis of Connecticut Teamsters went with company officials on the scene, and said the gunman had been summoned to a disciplinary hearing.

“Something broke inside of his head,” Thornton said WFSB ex-girlfriend.

Dealers Hartford WFSB receptionist said she heard Marissa Busiere another co-worker after shots heard screaming inside the business.

“‘He’s shooting! Is shooting! Call 911. And everybody started to run outside the building,” said Busiere.
