groundhogchuckjpgStaten Island Chuck | www.usspost.com:Groundhog Chuck made his predictions in Staten Island Zoo at 7:30 am. It’s official – or as official as Groundhogs can make a prediction: we’ll see in the early spring of this year.
Lured out of his house, G. Charles Hogg, known as the Staten Island Chuck, does not see its shadow, and announced that he will be during the winter season in two weeks.
“No Shadow,” said New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “Spring is coming.”
Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania, at the same time – has called for six more weeks of winter.
With all eyes on her husband with a rich history, Chuck did not bite Hizzoner today, instead of acting as a sophisticated rodents.
“I think I must be magnanimous and say that he put up a good fight,” Bloomberg quipped, after it took a few minutes to persuade – more like a drag – Chuck out of his home in the winter
“I think it’s clear who was the hero really is. In the past year, and you’re ready for a finger, right here, in a way to protect people from this town great. The only thing standing between Chuck and get bitten on the finger and I have a scar to prove exactly how much I love and one off the five boroughs best we have. ”
Mayor wore heavy work gloves, animal handling this year after last year, and leather and found it was not a match for Groundhog.
It does not seem like spring – was cold at the zoo with temperatures in the mid 20s this morning. Chuck will get an early test to predict with one inch of snow expected tonight and another possible storm on Friday night.
Children and their parents and curious onlookers began gathering early as the doors opened at about 6:45 am
“I want to tell him that spring – is freezing and said,” Michelle Sulkin, 9, of Grasmere before the ceremony began.
Her friend Jessica Mizer, 10, of Dongan Hills, disagree.
“I love the winter,” adding that she had just been skiing at the weekend.
In the moments before the ceremony, children began chanting ‘We want Chuck’ as Bloomberg took place on the podium. Advance Editor Brian Laline chaired the ceremony and a number of other elected officials and community leaders and the labor.
Albert Cardone, 8, of West Brighton, brought on first aid in case of Hizzoner need medical care.
“I’m ready to a large extent to the sun,” he said, and revealed his desire in the winter for this purpose.
Groundhog Day stems from the belief that the ancient creatures hibernate were able to predict the arrival of spring before they emerge. German immigrants known as Pennsylvania Dutch brought this tradition to the United States in the Horn of 18th.
Chuck has seen the shadows, it may mean more than six weeks of winter.
SILive.com check in later this morning for pictures and video of the zoo.
