Malaysian Super League, A Fifa investigator has said that matches the LionsXII have played in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) could have been fixed.

In an interview with The New Paper, the source revealed that while the matches the LionsXII are under investigation, the LionsXII themselves are not.

He, who only wanted to be known as John, told the paper that at least one match is confirmed to have been fixed and that the match officials and players are under investigation. Three MSL teams are also under investigation.

John assured the tabloid’s reporter that the compromise did not come from Singapore but did not reveal which matches were compromised.

This announcement comes after Football Association of Malaysia last week suspended 18 youth players and banned a coach for life for fixing matches.

A senior official at the governing body of Malaysian football told AFP yesterday that at least one player was threatened by a bookie with physical harm unless he helped to throw a match.

He too declined to provide details as the investigation was under way, but said: “Those individuals who indulge in corruption have no principles in life.”

“They do not have any spirit of sportsmanship,” he added.

When contacted, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) said in a press statement that it carries a zero tolerance policy when it comes to match-fixing.
