Madonna Twitter: Madonna’s First Twitter Chat, Madonna’s 12th studio album, “MDNA,” comes out today, leading fans and critics alike to wonder: Does the Material Girl still have it? At 53, the pop superstar is competing in an arena with singers half her age. But that only seems to make her push even harder.

After debuting her lead single “Give Me All Your Luvin'” at the Super Bowl in January, Madonna announced a world tour, kicking off May 29 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Now she’s using social media to get the word out about her new release, her first since 2008’s “Hard Candy.” She has a Facebook interview with Jimmy Fallon, and a live Twitter chat on tap for today at 10 p.m. ET.

So far, reviews for the album have been mixed. Here’s a sampling:

Los Angeles Times: “The music here is certainly not disarming, and while it’s dangerous to speculate on the listening habits of artists, ‘MDNA’ more than anything sounds like an album made by someone who’s lost touch with the desires of today’s popular music while pursuing other endeavors, including child-rearing and moviemaking.”

San Francisco Chronicle: “Her newest release, “MDNA” — her first apart from her longtime label, Warner Bros. — is full of upbeat dance jams and simmering slow grooves, and it delivers for the most part. True, it’s not nearly as top-notch as past records from the pop icon; the songs on ‘MDNA,’ despite some risque language, are much safer and tread familiar ground. Still, there are some standouts.”

Chicago Sun-Times: “‘MDNA,’ though, despite a rough start, is a revved-up emotional roller coaster full of pop both sunny and bleak, all of it squarely engineered for the dance floor.”
