Madonna Super Bowl 2012, Madonna performed an energetic and well-received half-time show at the 2012 Super Bowl on Sunday (January 6, 2012), but American television bosses were forced to apologize after London-born singer Mia swore and flashed her middle finger at the camera while on-stage with the pop-icon.

The rapper and singer, real name Maya Arulpragasam was performing a duet of Madonna’s latest single ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ at the game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots in Indianapolis when she made the explicit gesture and sang “I don’t give a s**t”. Viewers saw the screen briefly blur as technicians frantically attempted to cover the middle finger.

The Super Bowl half-time show is always fraught with danger for television bosses, given it pulls in an audience of more than 100 million people and is beamed live around the world. A spokesman for Nbc, which broadcast the game, said, “We apologise for the inappropriate gesture that aired during half-time. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late”.

Cbs became involved in legal wrangling for years following Janet Jackson’s infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction’ during the Super Bowl in 2004. It’s not the first time that Mia has courted controversy – the singer, best known for her hit single ‘Paper Planes’, was given an adults-only rating by YouTube for her video ‘Born Free’ in 2010. A spokesman for the Nfl said Mia had not done anything similar to the gesture when she rehearsed with Madonna and officials said they had no reason to believe she would do something similar during the actual show.
