Lou Gehrig s DiseaseLou Gehrig s Disease, In the final home game of college football career on Saturday, King’s College Brianne Schmidt is taking the opportunity to raise awareness and donations for a disease that has personally affected her family.

Schmidt, a high level of Chlafont and a graduate of Central Bucks South, lost her father, Donn Schmidt, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2009.

The progression of the disease, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease has no cure and affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The average survival rate for patients with ALS is three to five years.

“My father was a fighter and I am a fighter and I want to fight for this cause,” said Schmidt. “Before my father was diagnosed I feel that I knew nothing about ALS and now I have heard about him all the time. I hope to raise awareness about it, because perhaps the consciousness that will take us a few steps close to finding a cure. ”

This is the second year Schmidt has hosted the fundraiser. Last year’s event up to 1000. The money raised will benefit the ALS TDI Foundation, an organization that seeks to fund ALS research.

King will host DeSales at 4:30 at McCarthy Stadium. Bracelets yellow and purple and will retail for Chapter 3 and the King of the Society of Human Resource Management will hold a bake sale with all proceeds going to ALS. A donation box will also be available at the bake sale table.

“My family had a difficult time seeing my father go through ALS,” said Schmidt. “No family should have to go through that. But in reality, such as talking with others who deal with ALS, because I identify with your situation. ALS is always difficult to talk, but I know that someday there will be a cure.” Max Allegro s
