Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers, Laughter filled the air in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ clubhouse. Players shook hands and high-fived. They talked about their favorite memories with their prospective new owner.

Magic Johnson, one of the greatest icons in Los Angeles sports history, is the headline name with the Dodgers’ new prospective ownership group.

It doesn’t matter that no one knows what Johnson’s role will be with the Dodgers, or that the man running the baseball operations will be Stan Kasten, former president of the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals.

Or that the team will be financed by Mark Walter, CEO of Guggenheim Partners, a Chicago-based financial services firm.

It doesn’t even matter that beleaguered owner Frank McCourt still will share the Dodger parking lot rights with the new group, as part of the record $2.15 billion purchase price.

The idea that Magic Johnson, who led the Lakers to five NBA titles, is one of their new bosses, had the Dodger players heading to the nearest sporting goods store to buy basketballs.

“He better get his hand ready,” Dodgers outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. said, “because there’ll be 25 guys in here holding basketballs ready to be signed. I’m probably more pumped than anybody in this room because I’m the biggest Laker fan in the world.”
