Lorain County Election Results, Voters agreed Tuesday to continue funding the Lorain County General Health District.

Issue 17, a 1-mill renewal levy, passed 16,036 to 15,104, an approximately 2 percent victory margin, according to unofficial results from the Lorain County Board of Elections. The five-year levy will raise $3.8 million annually and cost the owner of a $100,000 home $30.63 yearly.

The district, which has about 70 full-time employees, has a $7.6 million annual budget, according to Ken Pearce, district commissioner. It serves all townships and villages in the county as well as Amherst, Avon, North Ridgeville, Oberlin and Sheffield Lake.

Services include adult and child immunizations, disease control, environmental and water inspections, food inspections, health clinics, school nursing for nine school districts and care for handicapped children. Pearce said the slim victory margin was similar to the 2007 margin.

Pearce said he was hopeful voters would appreciate the value of preventative health care.

Supporters essentially relied on the district’s reputation for service to gain approval.
