Lech Kaczynski 11Lech Kaczynski:Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski, has died in a plane crash in western Russia Airport today. He was 60 years old. All passengers on the plane died, including his wife Mary, National Bank chief and the top military. It is said that 95 or more people have died in this crash.

This terrible crash happened when the president and other officials were to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the annihilation of the Katyn Polish prisoners of war. In that war, 20,000 officers were sentenced to death in World War II. The plane was to land on the runway but then hit the trees in place.

Where you hit the trees was about 1.5 km from the airport and the runway. After striking the trees that the plane caught fire and broke into pieces. The fog played a huge role in the crash of the airplane as the pilot is facing difficulties in landing the plane because he made four attempts, all unsuccessful.

Although the pilot turned the plane to land at the airport in others but in the latest attempt of the plane hit trees and caught fire. The black box of the plate has not been found yet. The chairman of the House Bronislaw Komorowski now is president of Poland.

The plane crash appears to be the most terrible catastrophe in the history of Poland and has destroyed the country. The leaders of other countries and the Queen has sent tributes to those killed in the accident. This has led to new elections that could occur in two months. But today really was a dark day in the history of Poland.

Obama mourns ‘devastating’ Poland lossPoland,Polish President:U.S. President Barack Obama offered his condolences to Poland Saturday, mourning the “devastating” the death of President Lech Kaczynski, and dozens of other senior officials in a plane crash fire.

Obama said he called the prime minister, Donald Tusk, to express his and his wife Michelle “deepest condolences to the people of Poland on the tragic death this morning of President Lech Kaczynski, First Lady Maria Kaczynski, and all those who traveled with them to mark the 70th anniversary of the slaughter of Katyn. ”

Obama described the loss as “devastating to Poland, the United States and the world.”

The plane carrying much of the country’s elite military status and crashed in thick fog in western Russia on Saturday killing 96 people on board.

The aging Russian jet was taking Kaczynski and his wife, the Chief of Staff and other senior military officials, central bank governor, deputy foreign minister, parliamentarians and other senior officials to a ceremony of thousands of Polish soldiers massacred Russian forces in World War II.

Obama said the dead in the accident as “many of Poland‘s most distinguished military and civilian leaders who have helped to inspire a democratic transformation of Poland.”

“Today, there are heavy hearts across America. The United States cherishes its deep and abiding obligations to the people of Poland,” he said in a statement, adding that Americans “join all citizens of Poland Grieving “those who died.

Kaczynski praised as “a distinguished statesman who played a key role in the Solidarity movement, and was widely admired in the United States as a leader dedicated to promoting freedom and human dignity.”

Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush said he and his wife Laura were “deeply saddened” by the tragedy.

“President Kaczynski was a staunch defender of freedom and a friend of the United States,” he said.

“On this sad day, we send our deepest condolences to the Polish people, and especially to the families of those lost in this tragic accident. We shall keep in our thoughts and prayers.”

Last year, Obama Bush administration scrapped plans to install a missile base in Poland to counter threats from “rogue” states like Iran. Russia criticized the original plan as a serious security threat.

Obama opted for a renewed project after the determination of Tehran was developing its short and medium range missiles faster than its capacity long-range missiles.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton offered his “profound condolences” to the Poles.

“The Poles have suffered more than its share of pain, but they have always shown resilience and resolve in adversity – and I know that will bring together in solidarity to mourn this loss,” he said.

Kaczynski described Clinton as “one of the most valuable and reliable allies of the United States”, waving to him and many others lost in the accident as “men and women who shaped and accelerated after 1989 Poland-democratic transformation.”

“The tragedy of these lives cut will be felt deeply throughout the world, but his legacy will live in a free and prosperous Poland,” he said.

Polish President Plane CrashPolish President Plane Crash:Poland, President Lech Kaczynski AM, his wife and several senior officials were killed Saturday when the plane crashed in fog on landing at an airport in Russia.

Kaczynski, and a delegation of military and civilian leaders, including the head of the country, the bank of national administrative officers, the Chief of Staff of the Army and several legislators, traveling with the 70th anniversary of the massacre of Polish officers by the Soviet secret police in the Russian town of Katyn. The trip was part of a thaw in relations between Poland and Russia and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said his country Äúshares pain and grief of Poland, the African Union in the wake of the collapse.

According to reports, the pilot of the Tupolev aircraft tried to land in dense fog despite having been advised to divert to another airport. Russian officials have put the death toll to 96, including 88 who were part of the Polish delegation, according to AP.

President Obama called the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, to express condolences and issued a statement saying, “Today, the loss is devastating administrative officers to Poland, the United States and the world. President Kaczynski was a distinguished statesman who played a key role in the Solidarity movement, and was widely admired in the United States as a leader dedicated to promoting freedom and human dignity. With him were many of Poland, MA civilian and military leaders who have outstanding helped shape Poland, the democratic transformation of inspiration AM. We join with all citizens of Poland in mourning his step. ”

“Today, there are heavy hearts across America,” Obama said in a statement. “The United States values its deep and abiding bonds with the people of Poland. The bonds are represented in the strength of our alliance, friendship between our peoples, and the outstanding contributions of Polish-Americans who have helped shape our nation” .

“The United States supports the Polish people in this difficult time,” said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “As the country leader, President Kaczynski was one of the United States, the most valued and reliable AM allies. He was well known in the United States as a champion for democracy against an oppressive regime, a man whose journey took him from Gdansk Shipyard to the presidency of a free people. President Kaczynski was a tireless advocate for freedom and human rights not only in Poland but throughout the world. He will be long remembered and missed greatly.
