Gaga New Year's Eve KissGaga New Year’s Eve Kiss, Two days after Lady Gaga smooched Mayor Michael Bloomberg smack dab on the lips at the stroke of midnight during the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square, New York City’s chief executive smiled as he recalled the magical moment and gushed about his encounter with the world-famous entertainer.

Asked by The Wall Street Journal to discuss both his thoughts—and, um, feelings—about the lip-lock, the mayor, who turns 70 next month, confessed he found Lady Gaga to be “very charming.”

Lady Gaga leans in for more than just a New Year’s peck.

“She’s a young lady who grew up and went to school here in New York City. She’s obviously a great entertainer,” the mayor said at a news conference in Queens Tuesday. “There’s very few people who’ve gone into a very tough business and…risen to the top as quickly as she has. And if you go back and look now, it’s been a few years. She’s stayed at the top in a business where that’s very difficult to do. So, obviously, she really does have some talent.”

That night, the mayor danced briefly with the mask-wearing Lady Gaga. The “Bad Romance” singer posed for pictures with the Bloomberg clan and “couldn’t have been nicer,” the mayor said. Mr. Bloomberg said he plans to dine at a restaurant that Lady Gaga’s father is opening on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

In the mayor’s view, the star seemed a bit star-struck by the festivities in Times Square. Lady Gaga performed in Times Square on Saturday night and she was the mayor’s special guest, helping him push the Waterford crystal button at 11:59 p.m. that signals the descent of the New Year’s Eve ball.

“I said something about, ‘Are you nervous?’ She said, ‘A little bit,'” said the mayor, recounting his conversation with Lady Gaga. “And I said, ‘Well, why? You know, you have performed in front of big crowds all the time.’ She said, ‘Ahh yeah, but this is my home.'”

After Lady Gaga kissed the mayor, the mayor took a few steps back on the riser and delivered an extra long, affectionate kiss on the lips of his longtime companion, Diana Taylor, the former state superintendent of banks.

That kiss, albeit not as extensive as the one Vice President Al Gore gave his wife, Tipper, during the 2000 Democratic National Convention, was still quite long, and left some in the mayor’s entourage all atwitter.

On Tuesday, the mayor was quick to point out that the kiss with Ms. Taylor was the more important of the two. The mayor said he would “be remiss” if he didn’t note, “the best kiss of the night” came from Ms. Taylor. Then, he mischievously suggested, the second kiss was one of diplomatic necessity after the one with Gaga.
