Construction at the site of a new Kohl’s department store continues at the Killingly Plaza in Dayville, and the renovated storefront is slated to open in October in Dayville. The store, off North Main Street, is a 57,720-square-foot building with 176 dedicated parking spaces.

Former tenants
The soon-to-be-store is in a portion of the 66,000-square-foot center that previously housed a Stop & Shop supermarket and a Blockbuster video store. Stop & Shop moved from the center to the nearby Killingly Commons off Route 101, and Blockbuster left the center in 2011.

Developer
Site development plans were filed with the town by CEI Engineering Associates Inc. last year. CEI is a national firm with a northeastern office in Scranton, Pa.

Workers have built a small addition in the rear of the property and must still reconfigure a traffic entrance for southbound delivery vehicles, an issue that most likely will be addressed by re-striping lines on the road. Landscap-ing, interior and exterior work is also ongoing.

Quotable
“It’s great to see what they’re doing there,” Killingly Planning and Development Director Linda Walden said. “It’s always good to see an existing building being retro-fitted for a new use, rather than just sitting vacant.”
