Kobayashi 69 Hot Dogs, Takeru Kobayashi, the Japanese former hot dog eating champion, won an annual chicken wing eating contest in Philadelphia on Friday, downing a record 337 wings in 30 minutes.

At the Wing Bowl 20, the 33-year-old smashed the previous record of 255 wings set last year by Jonathan Squibb and received a cash prize of $20,000, according to the electronic edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper.

The 20th event, hosted by a local radio station, reportedly drew a crowd of about 20,000.

Kobayashi, a native of Nagano Prefecture, won the famous July 4 hot dog eating competition in New York for six years in a row from 2001.

In 2010 and 2011, Kobayashi did not take part in the hot dog event due to a contractual issue. He set an unofficial record last year by eating 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes at an off-site event as the contest was broadcast live there on television.

“The truth is that if you brought me another 100 wings right now, I think I could eat them,” Kobayashi was quoted as saying after Friday’s event. “Not if it was a competition, but if you brought them to me, I’d take my time. But I could fit 100 more in.”
