Katy Perry Grammy Performance 2012

Katy Perry Grammy Performance 2012, What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time, Katy Perry had just showcased never-before seen footage from her October 2011 nuptials during her buzzed-about Grammy performance. While the singer delivered an emotional rendition of “Not Like The Movies,” footage of her wedding to Russell Brand was projected across the stage, revealing the newlyweds’ first kiss as husband and wife.

Following the ballad, Perry — whose sparkly white outfit was reminiscent of a wedding dress — launched into a Valentine’s-themed version of “Teenage Dream,” complete with flashing red hearts, animated cupids, and hot pink confetti. She even dedicated the performance to “all the Valentine lovers” — including, no doubt, her new hubby.

Fast forward one year, and Perry’s 2012 Grammy performance has the Internet buzzing for a different reason — her not-so-subtle jab at her now ex-husband.

Only four days after her divorce from Brand was finalized, Perry debuted her new song, “Part Of Me,” with lyrics seemingly directed at her ex: “You chewed me up and spit me out/Like I was poison in your mouth/You took my light, you drained me down/That was then and this is now.”

If that wasn’t obvious enough, Perry got more specific later in the performance: “Look at me/ I’m sparkling/ You will never put me out again/ So you can keep the diamond ring/ It don’t mean nothing anyway.”

Even the theatrics couldn’t be more different from last year. Instead of sparkles and hearts, Perry delivered the song in a skin-tight, metallic jumpsuit while the stage bursts aflame.

Brand filed for divorce in December 2012, 14 months after the star couple tied the knot. Their split, which was finalized last week, was reportedly amicable — Brand refused to take any of Perry’s money and Perry signed the divorce docs with a smiley face.
