How Tall Is Kate Middleton, (UKPA) – Prince William and Kate Middleton beamed from newspaper front pages around the world as excitement about the royal wedding reached the furthest corners of the globe.

The couple’s engagement was widely hailed in the international media as a welcome break from budget cuts and belt-tightening for financially stretched Britons.

Many papers also highlighted Miss Middleton’s relatively humble background in their accounts of the “fairy tale” romance.

Italy’s La Stampa dubbed her “the Cinderella of Bucklebury” in a reference to her home village in Berkshire.

The National Post in Canada said her “very name screams of normalcy”, adding: “She’s from sturdy labourers’ stock, the very masses who both populate and watch top English serial EastEnders and Coronation Street.”

Bild, Germany’s top-selling newspaper, featured the Royal engagement as the top story on its website under the headline, “Kate and William: the dream wedding”. It said: “There was once a simple but beautiful girl. Her grandfather worked as a miner and her mother was an air stewardess. She was just 20 when a kiss changed her life.”

Comparisons with the lavish 1981 wedding of William’s parents, the Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales, were inescapable for the international media, particularly given the young Prince’s decision to give his fiancee his mother’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring.

The New York Times said Miss Middleton was “a different sort of royal bride” from Diana, whom the paper described as “naive and indifferently educated”. It added: “By all accounts, Miss Middleton is tough and savvy, and far better equipped to deal with media attention than Diana was.”

The Daily Telegraph newspaper in Sydney, Australia, had a large picture of the couple on its front page captioned, “Will and Kate to wed: Royals’ new generation”.

Inside, under the headline “She’s no longer a lady in waiting”, the paper noted that an overly ostentatious Royal wedding would leave a “sour taste” in austerity Britain. But it added: “The couple’s wedding ceremony is expected to give Britain a much-needed boost, with most of the country suffering from crippling spending cuts.”
