Kate BeckinsaleKate Beckinsale, Kate Beckinsale was taxed with the difficult challenge of training for “Underworld: Awakening” while filming “Contraband” in New Orleans, one of the nation’s foodie capitals and told OnTheRedCarpet.com it was not a fun task.
“The whole time I was preparing for ‘Underworld,’ I was actually shooting ‘Contraband,’ so New Orleans is a wonderful city, but it’s not the most fantastic place to get in shape because we want to go try those beignets and all those wonderful things,” Beckinsale told OnTheRedCarpet.com in a satellite interview to promote “Contraband.”

“It’s got the worst kind of ‘Underworld’ suit food, really. So it was a miracle,” Beckinsale continued. “I guess having had a lot of training for the first one, thank goodness, it wasn’t quite as extensive as that but there were still a lot of complicated fight scenes to learn and stunts I hadn’t done before and just the sheer terror of getting back into that suit, which is a bit like a put your bikini on and stand in Times Square kind of feeling.”

In “Contraband,” which hit theaters on January 13, the English actress portrays Mark Wahlberg’s husband. The film is an English language adaptation of the 2008 Icelandic movie “Reykjavic-Rotterdam,” which follows a former smuggler who works as a night guard and is dragged in for one more job in his former shady profession when his life is threatened after his brother-in-law botches a smuggling run.

“The movie’s about Mark Walhberg’s character who used to be a smuggler basically, and since getting married to me and us having two sons, has turned straight and doesn’t do that anymore,” Beckinsale explained. “But then my brother gets involved with some similar stuff and then he dumps a shipment of drugs and owes the wrong people money and so the only way for him to really get out of that mess is if Mark comes back and does one more run. So that’s what happens and it all gets somewhat tense.”
